Workshop Feminism and Militarism at the International Alternative Conference to Afghanistan Bonn December 4th 2011
an invitation from kristine karch to the international protest against “Petersberg II”.
Dear all in the women against NATO network!
Protest against “Petersberg II”: Give Peace a Chance – Troops Out of Afghanistan
is the slogan of the actions against Afghanistan Conference “Petersberg II”.
They talk peace but wage war! Troops out of Afghanistan! On December 3rd a nation-wide demonstration is taking place in Bonn.
On Sunday December 4th the International Alternative Conference will take place, in cooperation with other organisations, foundations and initiatives such as the “No to NATO – No to War” network and the “Rosa Luxembourg Foundation”.
More information will be found on the website http://www.afghanistanprotest.de/en/home.html
Sunday from 16.45 til 18.00 in the second workshop part I will coordinate the workshop “Feminism and Militarism: The struggle of the Afghan women for emancipation and self-determination – what are their requirements to us?”
After a short review of the current situation of afghan women we should discuss the speaker their ideas, ideals, suggestions and requests for the emancipation and self-determination if women and what they expect from us.
In the workshop in Lisboa we focused on the UN resolution 1325 and had a controversial debat about it, in Dublin we said “We reject NATO’s exploitation of Resolution 1325 to manipulate women, utilize their efforts for military purposes, and enrol more women into armed forces. We reassert that the militarist and masculinist meaning ascribed to ‘security’ by NATO is not the human safety and well-being envisioned by women in Resolution 1325.”
This time we should focus on the situation of Afghan women and their interests and needs for emancipation and self-determination. In a common discussion we should exchange our different views and should try to find ways to support each other in our fights. And we should see, if the resolution can help us, to get the foreign troops out of Afghanistan, a precondition for peace and self-determined development of the Afghan society.
These are my first ideas for the workshop and I invite you to comment them.
As soon as I will have the name of the Afghan woman, I will inform you and for a better preparation of the workshop I would like to know, who of you is coming to Bonn and will take part on the workshop.
With the hope to see you in Bonn
kind regards
kristine
