INVITATION: AUG 30 Intl. Drone Meeting in Wales

We are moving ahead to realize the plan we forged when anti-drone activists from eight countries met in Berlin in December 2013 — tomount the first Global Action Day Against the Use of Drones for Surveillance & Killing on October 4, 2014, less than two months from now!

The new international Global Action Day website is up: globaldayofaction.nationbuilder.com. Please take a look!  (Many thanks to CODEPINK and KnowDrones in the U.S. for setting up the website.)

On the page “About Global Action Day” you will find our CALL and information on how to post your event(s) and action(s) on the website. (The call is also attached as a Word document in case you wish to use it for flyers.)

On the page “October 4th: Actions Around the World” we will post brief descriptions of local event(s) and action(s) around the world. Actions are already being planned in a number of countries — in Germany alone we know of seven in various cities.

YOUR ACTIVE PARTICIPATION NOW will be essential for the success of Global Action Day.

As soon as you can, PLEASE DO THE FOLLOWING:

1) Contact your friends, colleagues, contacts in other cities and countries around the world and encourage them to participate in Global Action Day.

We hope that activists from many more countries will join with us — and that communities that do not yet have an anti-drone campaign will consider launching one now.

2) Send a brief description of your local event(s) or action(s) to to post on globaldayofaction.nationbuilder.com.

Below this letter are instructions for listing your event or action.

Even if you are in the early planning stages for your event, please send a brief announcement as soon as possible (such as “In Stuttgart we are planning a demonstration against AFRICOM.”) This will encourage other activists to plan actions in other places.  We can later replace your brief announcement with a more complete description of your event.

3) Join us August 30, 2014 in Wales for the NEXT INTERNATIONAL WORKING MEETING ON DRONES!

We encourage you to stay in Wales to participate the international anti-NATO protests and NATO events from August 30th to September 5th.   Wales is a key center for European drone development and has an active anti-drone movement. There will be a drone workshop in Newport on September 1st.

Tips for posting your event on the Global Action Day website:

— Your event description may be in any language, but please also include an English version for international readers. We will post both.

— Please include the address of your event or action with zip code so that it will show up on the Google map.

— You may include a video, photo, flyer, or press release (as PDF or JPEG).

Help people contact you about your local Global Action Day event:

— Provide an email address and/or a URL link to your own website (for an example, see “Fly Kites not Drones” on the website).

— Alternatively, you can ask us to link your event description to your Facebook page.

— Or you can ask us to set up the RSVP function for your event, and only you (not we) will receive the RSVPs for your event (see “Sample Event” on the website).
