Dear List members,My name is Anita Fisicaro, I am member of the Women’s International League for Peace and Freedom ( WILPF) and also,as an activist of the No War Rome network, among the promoters of the No War No NATO Campaign.I wish to inform you about the demonstration organized Tuesday and Wednesday in Rome in front of the Lower House.Italians, Americans, along with Yemeni and Syrian families, asked Italian Parliament to distance itself from ”European and western sanctions that contribute to the tragedy experienced by the Syrian people”.Protesters also asked the government to suspend ”military provisions to Saudi Arabia, a kingdom that is among the top importers of weapons from Italy and which is bombing Yemen”.”Law 185 bans exports of weapons to countries at war”, explained one of the promoters.
Among participants was also Mons. Hilarion Capucci, a former Melkite bishop in Jerusalem. During the demonstration – organized by the No War Rome network – a few Yemenis spoke about the destruction of Sanaa – the old city is a UNESCO world heritage site – under Saudi bombs, stressing that this is occurring while the international community remains completely silent.
