Details
2020 is characterized by economic, environmental and health and welfare crises. There is a spread of war virus and militarism at the same time as pandemics, racism, individualism and self-sufficient attitudes. We also see the collapse of international agreements and biases and discrimination in “crisis solutions”. The open online meeting will discuss: Solutions – for whom and what. Who sets the agenda. Is it enough to keep the wheels turning – or is it time for a change. What change do we want, and how do we make it happen? How can we go from crisis and militarism to peace and welfare.
The organization “Stop NATO” asks whether NATO costs us welfare. Reference will be made here to NATO’s investments, wars and demands for increased military budgets. NATO’s and Norwegian foreign and security policy are put in a critical light – with increased tensions and insecurity. What exactly is the threat picture in today’s world? How to organize and gain increased support and activity in war resistance.
IKFF (The NOrwegian branch of Women’s International League for Peace and Freedom) will discuss the need for a new defense and security policy that puts human security at the center. Both Covid-19, the environmental and climate crisis have highlighted threats that cannot be resolved militarily and that require global cooperation, not enemy images. Military activities are detrimental to the environment and climate, at the same time as they are extremely expensive and affect welfare budgets. An alternative security policy may include a Ministry of Peace to ensure expertise, budgets and coordination of peace measures at all levels.
