On the occasion of the start of the campaign for the NATO Madrid 2022 Counter-Summit, the Frente Antiimperialista Internacionalista (FAI) offers to the public opinion the attached report.

The purpose of this text is to alert on two issues that deeply affect the world and particularly our country: NATO and the Defense Cooperation Agreement between the US and the Kingdom of Spain.

This is not a closed or finished text; it is an open text that will be developed from now until the Counter-Summit is held, with all the contributions made in the campaign that is now beginning.

It sets out the historical trajectory of both, emphasizing, more than the events, their why, what motivated them, in what logic they are inscribed. The multiple articulations of the Atlantic Alliance, which extend beyond its military dimension, are addressed. We analyze the objectives and structure of this organization and its expansion plans in the 2030 agenda.

Similarly, we address the military relations of the Spanish State with NATO and the U.S., analyzing the character of subordination and dependence they have had for nearly 70 years.

The important role of popular mobilizations as the main instrument of defense against this barbarism is also included.

In mid-May the deadline for the renewal of the Defense Agreement with the U.S. expires and in June the next NATO summit will be held in Madrid.

In both cases the aim is to increase our involvement in the war plans that the West is preparing under US leadership.

The grotesque farce of the “war to protect” will be fed by all kinds of media manipulations in which political, institutional, cultural and social actors will participate.

This text seeks to contribute to the awareness necessary to stop this inhuman spiral of brutality and violence and to help dismantle these criminal alliances.
