On Tuesday night we had a meeting of the CPDCS board, during which we talked about the recent NATO counter-summit conference and related protests in Washington, D.C. The obvious was stated: not even many in our peace movement know about NATO, now a global as well as nuclear military alliance.

That led me to remember that on Thursday at 1:30 p.m. Boston time, I will be speaking in a webinar organized by the British Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament titled Eurobomb No Thanks: Preventing Nuclear Proliferation in Europe.

Join CND for this online meeting to discuss why we must mobilise to stop the development of a European nuclear weapons system. This timely event is planned as states prepare for the nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) Preparatory Committee (PrepCom) at the UN in Geneva in July and August.

CND will be attending the PrepCom where we will also be organising a side event on the same theme as the webinar: to counter arguments being made in favour of a ‘Eurobomb’.

This webinar is an opportunity to join with international speakers, to learn more, and to discuss how we can oppose European nuclear proliferation, ahead of the Geneva conference.

We’ll be joined by:

Jean-Marie Collin, Director of ICAN FRANCE, to give the French viewpoint;

Joseph Gerson, President of the Campaign for Peace, Disarmament and Common Security, to speak on the American influence on European military policy; and

Rebecca Johnson, Director of Acronym, speaking on strategies for using the NPT and TPNW to stop the ‘Europroliferators’.
