here are short minutes of our productive ICC meeting 16.02.2021

Agenda:

• paper NATO2030
  • evaluate the webinar about NATO2030
    we had a very interesting and productive webinar with about 35 persons. It is important to take more attention to this paper, even if the topics are not new, but never announced in this confrontational way. The recommendations had requested by NATO Secretary General but up to now not yet confirm as new NATO strategy. This will happens probablyon the next NATO summit, the date is not fixed only the location with Brussels and first half of 2021.
    We have inform more about NATO2030, because it is not well known, but very dangerous.
    We agreed to the draft statement against NATO2030 (written by Ludo,  Reiner, Tamara, Kristine). Kate will correct the English, afterwards we will publish it and distribute it widely. It will be translated in French and Spanish.
  • The next webinar (network meeting) on March 1st from 18-19:30 CET (UTC+1) will focus on NATO and the new enemy image China, introduction by Ann Wright and the new relation between EU and NATO, prepared by Alain Rouy. The webinar will also reflect the Meeting of NATO Ministers of Defence in Brussels, 17-18 February 2021.
  • The third webinar (network meeting) is planned for April 6 19:30 – 21 CET and the topic: NATO2030 and the “Emerging and Disruptive Technologies”.
  • Kristine will contact Özlem Alev Demirel for preparing a webinar with European Parliamentarians Against NATO – i.e. Clare Daly, Jeremy Corbyn other political leaders.
  • Ann W. and Medea B. will breaf on US parliamentarians.
  • We should also call all our members from NATO-countries to brief their parlamentarians on NATO2030. Therefore we will also publish more papers, Ludo will translate his paper in English and Alain afterwards in French.
  • Reiner withe the help of Kate will try to get some fondICC from Transform for a young person to help with the youth No to NATO counter-summit and set up a network youth against NATO?

• international action day against foreign military bases on April 30
  The ICC agreed to the call (attached First international day of actions against military basis April 30th.docx), Kate will also correct the English and than we will distribute it and call our members to see if they can make some actions against military bases in their country. The German campaign Stopp Air Base Ramstein will do an action with bicycles on the Air Base. Kate reported: Subject to coronavirus restrictions we are looking into the possibility of some form of protest at NATO’s Maritime HQ in North London.
  On the eve of the 30 april we will have a webinar to mobilise for the actions and to inform about Military Bases and NATO2030.

• The network signed the DECLARATION FROM THE ASSEMBLY OF SOCIAL, PEACE AND ENVIRONMENTAL MOVEMENTS OF THE WSF 2021. Kristine will put it on the website and we will distribute it through our social media channels. We should ask the WSF to support our counter actions against the next NATO summit.

• Next meeting, is not jet scheduled, it depends on the result of the NATO Defence Minister meeting 17./18. Februar. Depending if and when a NATO summit is scheduled we have to meet a few days after the announcement to prepare counter actions, otherwise mid of March would be enough.
