The first time depleted uranium ammunition was used on a major scale was in the first Gulf War, but it didn’t stop there. Shortly after, soldiers who had been part of “peace-keeping missions” in Kuwait, Iraq, Afghanistan, and Bosnia-Herzegovina reported increased cases of cancer. As a result many have died, many more have fallen ill. Some estimates for deaths caused by cancer related to depleted uranium exposure count 500,000 deaths in the Gulf Wars alone.

For EN4B #16 we speak to Gregorio Piccin and Vincenzo Riccio who are in Italy where the National Association of Depleted Uranium Victims has been fighting legal battles for recognition and compensation and obtained more than 300 convictions against the Ministry of Defense.
