A discussion of the current situation in Israel/Palestine and how we can raise our voices against occupation and genocide.

Linda Sarsour  is a Palestinian-American political activist. She was co-chair of the 2017 Women’s March, the 2017 Day Without a Woman, and the 2019 Women’s March. She is also the former executive director of the Arab American Association of New York. Sarsour first gained attention for protesting police surveillance of American Muslims, later becoming involved in other civil rights issues such as police brutality, feminism, immigration policy, and mass incarceration. She has also organized Black Lives Matter demonstrations.

Elik Elhanan served in a special forces unit in the Israel Defense Forces from 1995 to1998, serving extensively in south Lebanon, the West Bank and Gaza. In 1997, his 14-year-old sister was killed by a suicide bomber in Jerusalem, and in 2000, following his father Rami Elhanan, Elik joined  Parents Circle-Families Forum. Elik is also a military refuser. He joined Courage to Refuse in 2002 and in 2005 was a co-founder of the Israeli-Palestinian group Combatants for Peace, for which he served as the Israeli director in 2006-07. In 2012 Elik participated in the attempt of the Swedish boat S/V Estelle to break the Israeli blockade of Gaza. He is currently the secretary/treasurer of American Friends of Combatants for Peace. Elik received his Phd in Middle East studies from Columbia University and teaches at CCNY. Elik and his wife, Danielle live in Brooklyn and are members of Veterans For Peace.
