NATO Proclamation At Annual Summit Threatens The Peace
Space Attacks and Cyber Attacks Could Now Trigger Military Intervention Under Article 5 of the NATO Treaty.
The NATO proclamation—promoted at its annual summit this week (June 2021)—that a cyber attack could trigger Article 5 of the NATO treaty heightens the risk of military confrontation with Russia or China.
So does a new stipulation—announced at the summit—that space attacks could trigger Article 5. Russia has already been accused of testing space-based anti-satellite weapons, which could be adopted as a justification now for war.

(Eigener Bericht) – Vor dem Beginn der Asien-Pazifik-Fahrt der deutschen Fregatte Bayern schwillt unter hochrangigen US-Militärs die Debatte über Form und Zeitpunkt eines möglichen großen Krieges gegen China an. Admiral a.D. James G. Stavridis, Ex-NATO-Oberbefehlshaber und Autor eines aktuellen Romans über einen solchen Krieg, hielt bis vor kurzem den Beginn von Kämpfen im kommenden Jahrzehnt für denkbar. Als mögliche Auslöser gelten die Auseinandersetzungen um Taiwan oder um Inseln im Süd- und im Ostchinesischen Meer. Allerdings verschiebt sich Stavridis zufolge das militärische Kräfteverhältnis zwischen den USA und China rasant, und zwar zugunsten der Volksrepublik, die in Teilbereichen – etwa bei der Anzahl ihrer Kriegsschiffe oder in der Cyberkriegführung – bereits aufgeholt habe. Stavridis warnt mittlerweile, “die Schlacht” zwischen Washington und Beijing könne “viel früher kommen”. Dabei spielten US-Verbündete eine zentrale Rolle; die USA bänden sie gezielt in immer “aggressivere” Operationen etwa im Südchinesischen Meer ein. Zu den erwähnten Verbündeten gehört auch Deutschland.
