Die Regierungen Deutschlands und Frankreichs haben sich 2017 darauf verständigt, für ihre
Luftwaffen ein Jahrhundertprojekt in Angriff zu nehmen. Spanien kam hinzu. Die veralteten Kampfflugzeuge Deutschlands (Eurofighter) und Frankreichs (Rafale) sollen nicht schlicht durch ein neues Kampfflugzeug ersetzt werden, sondern durch das Kampfflugzeugsystem FCAS (Future Combat Air System).
