Stolz verkündete die Bundesregierung pünktlich kurz vor den Feierlichkeiten zum 70-jährigen Nato-Jubiläum, für das kommende Jahr seien dem Bündnis erstmals Militärausgaben von über 50 Milliarden Euro gemeldet worden. Der offizielle Haushalt soll laut Kabinettsbeschluss im Jahr 2020 allerdings “nur” 44,9 Milliarden Euro umfassen.

Mit insgesamt 37 000 Soldatinnen und Soldaten aus 16 NATO-Staaten sowie aus Finnland und Georgien wird eine neue Dimension militärischer Aktivitäten erreicht. The first action conference against the planned NATO war-manoeuvre Defender 2020 took place in Leipzig (Germany) on November 24th. With 100 participants, mostly from the East Germany, the hall in the St. Trinitatis church was overcrowded, participants had to sit in the hallway and on the floor.
